Due to Apple Keychain Access, there are several limitations:
- Smarcards / token keychains cannot be unlocked. Clicking on the Unlock button will results in nothing.
- All these dialogs are read-only. You cannot use Apple Keychain Access to create and manage certificates. You should use OpenSC commands instead.
GOOZE registered apple-cdsa@lists.apple.com mailing list to ask for Apple Keychain Access source code access.
These limitations are only "graphical". Keychain really works with smartcards.
